Hello Duhks Fans!

Happy New Year! We hope 2013 will be a good year for the world. It certainly promises to be the most exciting year for The Duhks in a good long while.

We are now calling an end to our extended break. Gone are the days of 200 gigs a year and 10 months on the road, but that said, life is too short not to play the music we love and to share it with our friends.

That’s why we’re excited to report that in 2013, The Duhks—featuring original lead vocalist Jessee Havey, fiddler Tania Elizabeth, Jordan McConnell on guitar, Scott Senior on percussion, and Leonard Podolak on banjo—will be going into the studio in March to start work on a new CD. We plan to sell a five or six-song EP throughout the spring and summer and finish the CD in the autumn, for wider release.

We are also working on lining up tours throughout the year that will include shows in New York, North Carolina, Florida, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, Colorado, California, Michigan, Ohio and more to come. More of these dates will be announced shortly, please see the Tour Schedule.

We haven’t been sitting idle these past three years; all of us have either created or taken part in other projects.

Jordan is on the road in Japan right now with his friend Taro Inoue, an unbelievable mandolin player based in Tokyo. Going by the name “Taro & Jordan,” they have made a great CD called “Did I Laugh in Your Dreams?” It was recorded in the middle of the night and it’s awesome. Here is a You Tube link to one of their performances: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA6x1OuUJWM&list=PLy3J_ERGdpcwMaO_oBfIP5sAqfd6-ymH7
Jordan is also busy in his Winnipeg workshop, crafting gorgeous handmade custom guitars. https://www.facebook.com/pages/McConnell-Guitars/

Leonard recorded on three projects:

·        He contributed to The Cecil Sharp Project, which was a collaboration of British and North American folk musicians, sponsored by The Shrewsbury Folk Festival. http://www.cecilsharpproject.com/

·        He recorded a CD with his new trio, “Dry Bones,” with his pals Nathan Rogers and JD Edwards, two great singer-songwriters from Winnipeg. http://www.drybones.ca/fr_home.cfm

·        Leonard also recorded an old time record called “Three Thin Dimes,” featuring fiddle and banjo music performed with his pal Matt Gordon from New York. His work on that project was followed by a tour this winter in the U.K. supporting “Show of Hands,” an amazing British folk trio. http://www.facebook.com/MattGordonAndLeonardPodolak

Tania has been busy too, and has released an amazing solo fiddle CD called “Gods and Omens.” It’s truly outstanding. www.taniaelizabeth.com

Jessee has been on the road with Canadian children’s entertainer Fred Penner, one of our national heroes http://youngpeoplestheatre.ca/en/current/thecatcameback.cfm.
She has also worked as an Actor, Administrator, Musical Theatre Instructor & Assistant Director at Manitoba Theatre For Young People,http://www.mtyp.ca/theatre-school.cfm and played a key role Aboriginal Arts Training and Mentorship Program  http://www.mtyp.ca/aboriginal-arts.cfm

She is thrilled to be a part of this reunion.

Scott has been living with his family in Winnipeg and has been keeping the grooves going with Latin jazz ensemble “Trio Bembe.” He has an amazing full-time job teaching music to children with special needs, but will tour throughout the summer and on selected weekends. He is also excited to be a part of this new creative burst. http://triobembe.com/

Sarah and Christian Dugas are on an amazing track. They are pursuing an opportunity of a life-time. They are currently at work on a CD for Southern Ground Records, the label founded by Zac Brown. This is what they will be pursuing in the next while and we encourage you to follow their careers, as well. This project will no doubt be very powerful.
